"You're fine," Jacob promises, curling back around his coffee cup once the handshake ends. He flashes her a brief smile, meant to be both reassuring and acknowledging (it really is fine, it's nice to meet her, too), and when it fades, glances over her shoulder, to a table, nearby. They're whispering amongst themselves, glancing in their direction, and Jacob explains, "Mostly, I was just trying to avoid that."
