cleveland } { what if I wanted to fight?

[Peter knows that, when they spoke on the phone, Buffy said that Sylar was fine and that they don't need another pair of hands in Cleveland and all, but ... well, he worries. add in the fact that, after spending what felt like years in Sylar's head, he's a little attached and a little unsure of what to do with himself without Sylar around, and that probably explains why, despite Buffy's reassurances, he shows up in the city about a week later]

[perhaps thankfully for him, considering he doesn't have Claire's power at the moment, he arrives during the day and finds the house easily enough, and now he's standing on Slayer Central's doorstep, waiting for someone to come answer the door after having knocked. he's not sure how well his appearance will be received by Buffy and her friends, but ... at least he can take comfort in the fact that Sylar will be happy to see him. and maybe talk Buffy into letting him hang around, assuming she's against him being here]

[he continues to smile for a moment as she goes about fixing their coffee and then, slowly, he sobers] So, you mind if I ask what's going on here?

[no one's filled him in, but it wasn't hard to notice the state the city was in on his way here. and then, obviously, there was talk of Sylar helping, when they spoke on the phone. and magic. and ... yeah. something has to be up. he'd like to know what]

[She pauses before shaking her head.]

How much has Sylar told you?

Pretty much nothing. [a beat and then he amends] Well, he told me that something went down here and that he was lending a hand, but ... [but that's not much more than he got from Buffy when they spoke]

[She takes a breath and nods slowly, before gesturing to the counter so they could sit. This is going to be a long talk.]

Cleveland is on what's called a Hellmouth. It's ... pretty much what it sounds like. There are a lot of these, all over the world, but lately, they've been acting up a lot more than they used to. Something happened, mystically speaking, and they started to go into overdrive.

Cleveland was hit particularly hard.

[ ... and they're back to the whole magic thing. super powers, sure, those can actually exist and all, but apparently magic and demons and the like are a little too farfetched, even for him. that in mind, he arches his eyebrows dubiously]

Seriously?

[She nods a bit.]

Do I need to prove it to you, too? Because that may take a while, considering it's daytime.

[a touch apologetically] No offense, but ... [yeah, he wouldn't mind some proof, regardless of how long it may or may not take]

[She sighs.]

Alright. You can come patrol with me tonight. You'll get your proof.

Sorry. [but you have to admit, it's kind of hard to swallow]

[so are people with super powers, he's sure, but ... well, she got proof in the form of Sylar]

Don't be sorry. I know it's not easy for everybody to believe.

[She glances around.]

I'm surprised Sylar hasn't wandered in by now. He's usually ...

[She gestures vaguely to her ears.]

[and that earns her a wry smile] Trust me, he used to be a lot worse. [like, you know, when he had super hearing and was trying to kill him and -- ]

[ -- and oh look who has magically appeared in the doorway, as if summoned or on cue] He has a point.

[She smirks a bit at his sudden appearance, picking up her coffee cup.]

So now you just eavesdrop from a distance?

[he can't help but smirk, too] I'm not sure the other room counts as 'a distance.'

[and, after a moment, Peter offers] You're not gonna kick me out if I go with him on this one, are you? [he's not serious, obviously]

Hey. For some people that's quite a distance.

[Or something.]

And no. Siding against me is not a punishable offense.

[Unless it's part of a coup de tat.]

[it's not, no] Cool.

[that said, he glances to Sylar and -- and you're going to have to give them a minute, Buffy. they're kind of suddenly having a manly hugging session]

[Hug away, boys. She'll be over here with her coffee, letting them have their moment.]

[as they pull away, Sylar mutters something to Peter. whatever it is, it's enough to get a little laugh out of Peter -- as well as get him to shove him away from him -- and Sylar smirks, pops his eyebrows in a shrug and moves away to see if there's any coffee left. they'll probably have a longer, more serious conversation later, but for now, they both seem to be resettling, remembering they have an audience and not wanting to make her feel like a third wheel]

So, uh -- sorry.

[She shakes her head.]

I know how family goes. Especially family you haven't seen in a while.

[Peter still looks a little sheepish] Yeah.

Anyway.

[She glances back to Sylar.]

You want to patrol tonight? Peter's taking Hellmouth One-oh-One.

[Sylar glances over his shoulder -- really, Peter? really? -- and then turns to lean against the counter, coffee in hand. a shrug follows] Why not?

[He was the one who wanted proof.]

Okay. So you, me and ... not Dean. Maybe Cordelia will find a way to keep him busy.

[yeah, he got that -- hence the look he gave Peter. but at any rate, he hums] One of us can talk to her. [and ask if she'll run interference]

[Peter, meanwhile, glances between the two of them, not fully or even remotely grasping why they might not want Dean there. if he knew Dean, he'd probably get it, but ... ] Who's this Dean guy?

Another one of the hunters here. He's ... not exactly a people person.

[which is a polite way of saying that they haven't gotten around to sharing with him that Sylar is an overpowered powered person. Probably wouldn't be good for him to find out about Peter either.]

... okay. [he feels like there's something he's missing, and he glances at Sylar, hoping for an explanation. Sylar just pops his eyebrows in a shrug, though. if he explains, it'll be later, when Dean can't walk in on them] Right.

[a moment of silence follows and then] If we're going out tonight, you might want to skip the coffee. [you, too, Buffy. getting hopped up on caffeine and staying up all day as a result would probably be a bad idea]
