cleveland } { what if I wanted to fight?

[Peter knows that, when they spoke on the phone, Buffy said that Sylar was fine and that they don't need another pair of hands in Cleveland and all, but ... well, he worries. add in the fact that, after spending what felt like years in Sylar's head, he's a little attached and a little unsure of what to do with himself without Sylar around, and that probably explains why, despite Buffy's reassurances, he shows up in the city about a week later]

[perhaps thankfully for him, considering he doesn't have Claire's power at the moment, he arrives during the day and finds the house easily enough, and now he's standing on Slayer Central's doorstep, waiting for someone to come answer the door after having knocked. he's not sure how well his appearance will be received by Buffy and her friends, but ... at least he can take comfort in the fact that Sylar will be happy to see him. and maybe talk Buffy into letting him hang around, assuming she's against him being here]

[he flashes her a little smile at the mention of Sylar and then shakes his head] I just kinda decided at, like, three in the morning that it'd be a good idea to come out here, so ... I'm pretty sure you're good.

Well, I've always thought that three AM is the best time to make critical decisions like this one.

[not that she's not glad to finally be meeting him face to face, this is the Hellmouth.]

Coffee?

I'd argue, but ... [yeah, no, this isn't the first time he's made an important decision at some ungodly hour, and so he just grins sheepishly, albeit briefly, instead] ... but, uh, I wouldn't mind if you're offering? [and if it's not going to be a huge pain in the ass for her]

Not at all. I'm clearly in need of it myself, given the way I answered the door.

[and to the kitchen they go, where she starts on fixing a pot of coffee.]

So. Should I be worried about Sylar finding out your here? I mean, is his being here a younger sibling-style 'I am proving that I can do this' sort of thing? Not that I'm complaining about him being here, because him being here has been great, I just ... didn't expect to see you. Or ... meet you, rather.

I don't think so? [though, if he's being honest, it's kind of hard to tell. he and Sylar are close, sure, and he doesn't doubt that he'll be immediately pleased to see him, but ... ] If there is an issue, though, I'll back off.

[or so he says, now. but this is Peter]

[She shrugs.]

I've got a sister. Her freshman year at Berkeley, I was prone to suddenly dropping in where I wasn't necessarily wanted.

[basically she knows how it goes.]

[he can't help but look dimly amused in a sort of self-depreciating kind of way] Okay, so, maybe backing off might end up being kind of an issue.

[She grins.]

It's fine, really. Everyone has those sibling growing pains. Besides, it's nice to actually meet you face to face.

[he should probably tell her that Sylar's not exactly his brother, but -- but that would require a lot of explanation and he's not sure he's ready for that. or if Sylar is, since it'd mean outing him as the guy who murdered his actual brother]

[that in mind, he focuses on the last bit of that. he'll save the rest for later] Yeah, you, too. [a beat] You're kind of definitely what I expected and totally not at the same time. [you know how you get a mental image of someone in your mind when you talk to them on the phone? yeah, that]

[She laughs a bit.]

I'm trying to figure out if that's a criticism or a compliment.

[he laughs a little, too] It was more, like ... like you know how you kind of get a mental image of someone before you meet them? [like that] But let's go with compliment. [he didn't mean anything by it, after all]

[She nods because she totally gets what he means, and then smiles at the compliment part.]

Compliment it is.

[and with that, she will go back to fixing coffee.]

[he continues to smile for a moment as she goes about fixing their coffee and then, slowly, he sobers] So, you mind if I ask what's going on here?

[no one's filled him in, but it wasn't hard to notice the state the city was in on his way here. and then, obviously, there was talk of Sylar helping, when they spoke on the phone. and magic. and ... yeah. something has to be up. he'd like to know what]

[She pauses before shaking her head.]

How much has Sylar told you?

Pretty much nothing. [a beat and then he amends] Well, he told me that something went down here and that he was lending a hand, but ... [but that's not much more than he got from Buffy when they spoke]

[She takes a breath and nods slowly, before gesturing to the counter so they could sit. This is going to be a long talk.]

Cleveland is on what's called a Hellmouth. It's ... pretty much what it sounds like. There are a lot of these, all over the world, but lately, they've been acting up a lot more than they used to. Something happened, mystically speaking, and they started to go into overdrive.

Cleveland was hit particularly hard.

[ ... and they're back to the whole magic thing. super powers, sure, those can actually exist and all, but apparently magic and demons and the like are a little too farfetched, even for him. that in mind, he arches his eyebrows dubiously]

Seriously?

[She nods a bit.]

Do I need to prove it to you, too? Because that may take a while, considering it's daytime.

[a touch apologetically] No offense, but ... [yeah, he wouldn't mind some proof, regardless of how long it may or may not take]

[She sighs.]

Alright. You can come patrol with me tonight. You'll get your proof.

Sorry. [but you have to admit, it's kind of hard to swallow]

[so are people with super powers, he's sure, but ... well, she got proof in the form of Sylar]

Don't be sorry. I know it's not easy for everybody to believe.

[She glances around.]

I'm surprised Sylar hasn't wandered in by now. He's usually ...

[She gestures vaguely to her ears.]

[and that earns her a wry smile] Trust me, he used to be a lot worse. [like, you know, when he had super hearing and was trying to kill him and -- ]

[ -- and oh look who has magically appeared in the doorway, as if summoned or on cue] He has a point.

[She smirks a bit at his sudden appearance, picking up her coffee cup.]

So now you just eavesdrop from a distance?

[he can't help but smirk, too] I'm not sure the other room counts as 'a distance.'

[and, after a moment, Peter offers] You're not gonna kick me out if I go with him on this one, are you? [he's not serious, obviously]
