Free for all for superhero based fandom smashing. Make a top level with your hero of choice and someone else will smash into it. I figured this would be easy and fun to do until we figure out actual plot and then we can do that.

[Jessica Jones - yes, that Jessica Jones - twenty-something PI with a past. Really good at her job, but not always with the best of methods. Perpetually stuck in episode 3 until I catch up and finish the show completely. When I do, I will let you know.]

[Crane is here because Hogarth put in a call for a psych evaluation for Hope Shlottman. whether she's hoping it will help her case or hinder Jessica's obsession with it, who knows, but here he is, at the prison, as requested]

[he's currently watching Hope through the observation window, trying to get an initial impression before he goes in to talk to her, but he glances back, when Jessica enters. he turns in her direction entirely when he thinks he recognizes her, if only from what Hogarth told him]

Miss Jones, I presume?

[neverthehero]

[She makes a face as she gets up, eyeing Crane carefully. She doesn't like him. Probably just on the principle that Hogarth sent him.]

Yeah. That's me.

[but_fearhimself]

[he takes a few steps closer, switching the briefcase he's carrying off to his opposite hand so he can go in for the shake] Jonathan Crane. [a beat] I'm here for Miss Shlottman.

[She studies him warily for a moment, not opting to shake his hand mostly because she's not feeling that polite today.]

You her public defender or something?

[She knows he's not, the attorney has a different name. But for now, she's playing dumb.]

[but_fearhimself]

[well, then]

[he frowns at her]

As far as I'm aware, you already know the answer to that question. [a beat] Miss Hogarth asked me to provide a psych evaluation.

[neverthehero]

Ah.

[And she takes a step back, and crosses her arms in front of her chest.]

I'm sure that'll go well.

Care to enlighten me as to why?

[he's gotten the rundown on Hope, sure, but -- hearing it again from Jessica might give him something he didn't know before. something that Hogarth didn't know before]

Because from what I've been told, people like him tend to replace "mind control" with "Stockholm Syndrome."

It's certainly more plausible.

[seriously. if mind control were actually a thing, he'd be trying to figure it out right now]

Yeah. And I'm sure the guys who invaded Manhattan a couple years back were just really dedicated LARPers.

[Time to expand your mind, Dr. Crane.]

[but_fearhimself]

[he flashes her a tight, humorless smile]

There's a distinct difference between aliens and mind control, Miss Jones. [namely, one of these things does not exist]

[Jessica is not impressed.]

Oh, there is. But as far as realms of disbelief go, they're not all that far apart either.

[but_fearhimself]

Fair enough. [a beat] I'll try to keep that in mind.

[no, he won't]

[neverthehero]

Yeah, you won't.

[She calls it like she sees it.]

But by all means.

[And she will step to the side and gesture for him to head in and see Hope.]

[it's probably good she's getting out of the way -- if this conversation continued, she might piss him off enough for things to take a turn for the unfortunate. as it is, thankfully, he flashes her a very icy smile and heads for the door without further comment]

[And she will watch from the outside to make sure that Hope isn't being mistreated in anyway.]
